Exercises

Exercise 4

Create a character from one of the photos below, and write a story that involves the character returning to his or her home (or apartment or room) with another character. In your story, that second character should ask the first character for something in that room, or the first character should offer the second something from the room. The requested or offered item might be exchanged eagerly, willingly, reluctantly, or not at all, but it should in some way be tied to a conflict or disagreement or complicated history between the two characters.

This is not, by the way, a love story, nor does it involve violence.

Once you’re done, rewrite the story from the other character’s point-of-view.

Your completed story might include only one or perhaps both points-of-view.

Your story should be no longer than 1,000 words and should be posted on the class blog along with the photo that served as the inspiration for the story. Please revise and proofread carefully. Please complete your blog post by midnight on Wednesday, March 5.
